Scandia Food, the largest canned producer in Romania, acquired Thenaisie Provote, a company in Galicia, Spain, specializing in the production and distribution of fish and seafood products. This is the first acquisition made by the Romanian producer outside the country and is part of the company's strategy to become the largest national food company at national level and a leader in nutrition at European level.
"Scandia Food has a significant market share in the canned meat category, it is market leader in all segments in which it operates. The acquisition of Thenaisie Provote will help us consolidate our position on the Romanian fish market, but also to be present in other markets, the penetration of new geographies and the activation of new customers being some of the group's growth pillars, "said Andrei Ursulescu, general manager of Scandia Food.
Thenaisie Provote factory bought by the Scandia Romania for 2.8 million euros, writes Atlantico.net. The factory is located in Mos y O Grove, Galicia, the second most important market for global preserved fish production after Thailand. The Spanish company has a production capacity of about 5,500 tons and 220 employees. Production is exported to countries such as Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Croatia, Luxembourg, Venezuela, Colombia, the United States, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.
Last year, Thenaisie Provote reported a turnover of 29.8 million euros.
Scandia Food will act as the main shareholder and will participate in the company's management decisions and process, "allowing Thenaisie Provote to maintain its identity, established brands and its current organization," the Romanian company said in a statement.
Scandia Food entered the canned fish market two years ago with the Lotka brand, positioned on the premium segment.
