The National Airport of Bucharest (CNAB) intends to build a new terminal at Henri Coanda International Airport. According to the company's representatives, the value of the investment will be of EUR 818.5 million. The new terminal will double the capacity of trafficking at the airports of Capital of Romania announced CNAB in a meeting with several investors.
"... We intend to start work in 2022, and the terminal will be ready in three years since they started," the CNAB representatives said. According to them, the new terminal will have 25 new embarkation gates and 56 parking spaces.
According to the data presented in the first semester of this year, 55% of the passengers using the two airports in Bucharest were women and 45% men, and 86% traveled to the EU. The segment of people who traveled to the economic class fell from 94% in the first half of 2016 to 91% in S1 2017, while the business segment grew from 3% to 7%. The remaining 2% is Class I.
Wizz Air ranked first among the most demanded airlines in the first half of this year with 1.5 million passengers, followed by Blue Air with 1 million, Tarom with 0.9 million, Ryanair with 0.9 million and Lufthansa by 200,000.
The Bucharest-Henri Coanda International Airport (Otopeni Airport) had a passenger traffic of 10.99 million last year, and this year, according to company officials, will exceed Budapest, which last year had 11.43 million.
