19,700 Continental employees in Romania are working for the future of automotive industry

Technology company Continental has reached 19,700 employees in Romania. 1,500 people joined the team on different positions, both in engineering centers and in production units working on future trends of the industry: Automated Driving, Electric Mobility and Connectivity.
„Continental is present in Romania with all its five divisions. A wide range of cars is equipped with Continental products coming out of Romania. We focus on the most relevant technology areas in the rubber as well as the automotive arena including for instance, electronic products, rubber plastics for tires, transmission belts, ventilation and air conditioning pipes, as well as for electrification, connectivity and automated, respectively, autonomous driving. Over 5,700 engineers and IT specialists are working in our R&D centers. With fresh ideas and new ways to foster cooperation and a vision on long terms in automotive, Continental is ready for the future,“ said Dr. Christian von Albrichsfeld, Continental’s Country Head in Romania.
Continental made investments of over €175 million in 2017 in its Romanian operations. The company invested in infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment and technologies for its research and development centers as well as for production sites.
„Due to the fact that Continental is developing and producing trend setting technologies, the company could continue the growth also in 2017. The company sets also smart city solutions on the path to the city of the future. Engineers from Romania are working in an agile sector connecting with customers and growing together. Through their software and new trends and methods like Digitalization, Cloud, Big Data, AI, they are creating a living product, which is always flowing, being customizable and adaptable for the needs of the entire industry,“ said Dr. Christian von Albrichsfeld, Continental’s Country Head in Romania.

„1,500 new colleagues have joined the team in 2017. Continental, as a progressive and attractive employer, plans to hire this year over 1,000 employees. We want in our team software and IT&C specialists, electronic and mechanical engineers, process engineers and operators for production units. The open positions we have are targeting young professionals, experienced engineers as well as software and IT specialists from the automotive area as well as talents within the manufacturing area. We, within Continental, believe that values create value. This is the reason we are focused on the growth of our team and we offer different career development options. In our company, one could become a project manager, expert, team leader or begin its career as intern within our many international programs we run,“ said Anica Stoica, Country Human Relations Manager.
An investment on a comparable level, as in the previous year, is planned by Continental for 2018. The company will invest in people development, locations’ infrastructure and in state-of-the-art equipment and technologies.

In the time frame 1999 - 2017, Continental invested about € 1.4 billion in its Romanian operations. All the corporation’s five divisions are represented in Romania. The company has seven production units and four research and development centers in the cities of Timisoara, Sibiu, Carei, Nadab, Brasov and Iasi. Continental cooperates in a joint venture in Slatina and has a tire distribution center in Bucharest. Continental employed 19.700 colleagues by the end of 2017, out of which over 5.700 are engineers and IT specialits working in the R&D centers. Continental will hire this year over 1,000 new employees in Romania.
