Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Tuesday welcomed a delegation of the US Congress headed by Devin Nunes, chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, underscoring the need for the economic dimension of the strategic partnership between the two countries to be furthered.
Dancila is quoted as hailing in a press statement released by the Romanian government constant support from the US Congress to the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America. At the same time, she reiterated the great importance Romania attaches to the same partnership.
She also underlined the interest of Romania in intensifying bilateral consultations and co-operation on all issues of common interest, discussing with the American lawmakers the future bilateral political agenda.
'In addition to the importance of strengthening the political dialogue, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stressed the need for the economic dimension of the strategic partnership to be developed, given Romania's high potential and its interest in an increased presence of US investors. She also voiced appreciation for co-operation in the energy sector and the growing involvement of US companies in the exploration of hydrocarbon resources, especially in the Black Sea,' according to the statement.
Dancila also reviewed the latest regional security developments, highlighting the strategic importance of the Black Sea region to Euro-Atlantic security as a whole, and emphasising the need for a strong transatlantic link. She also stressed the importance of the decisions taken at the July NATO summit in Brussels to the security and stability of NATO's eastern flank.
The prime minister also mentioned Romania's consistent contributions to Euro-Atlantic security, highlighting the positive results in meeting defence spending commitments. At the same time, she said that Romania will continue to act as a responsible ally, actively contributing to the promotion of security in the Euro-Atlantic area and beyond.
Also featuring on the meeting's agenda was the enlargement of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Dancila voiced hope that the US will vote in favour of the OSCE enlargement and will support Romania's membership bid.
