Uber announced on Tuesday the launch in Bucharest of UberGreen, a new service with 100% electric cars without carbon emissions. Pilot service starts with 20 Renault Zoe cars. Uber hopes at least 10,000 people to use the service by the end of April.
The price of the new service is the same as UberSelect: 1.65 lei basic tariff / 0.28 lei per minute / 1.65 lei per kilometer. The minimum rate is 12 lei.
Bucharest is the first city in Central and Eastern Europe with a fully electric ridesharing service. In Europe, Uber also offers electric mobility options in London, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Porto and Zurich.
"We believe that the future of transport is electric, shared with others and autonomous, but it is still a long way to go. The purpose of this pilot service is to make electrical mobility accessible to more people than ever and to contribute to the development of electric transport in Bucharest. We can not succeed on our own, we want to make partnerships with authorities, car manufacturers and other actors in the energy area to make electric cars available to everyone, everywhere, "said Nicoleta Schroeder, general manager of Uber Romania.
The officials say Romania was chosen to launch the UberGreen pilot service because it is one of the most important countries in the European Union for Uber but also because Bucharest is facing a severe air pollution problem.
"Bucharest urgently needs a transformation plan. The pollution level, well above the European average, is no longer a novelty ... We need an intelligent infrastructure for the transport of people, carried out by means of green cars and with maximum safety of the passengers, "said Andrei Cosuleanu, director executive Let's do it Romania.
The cars in the UberGreen pilot service in Bucharest are the Renault ZOE with the new ZEE battery. 40, which allows a range of 400 km NEDC (equivalent to a real 300 km distance in urban and adjacent areas) after a single load.
The Uber company was founded in 2009 in the United States of America. From February 2015, Uber is also in Romania, in Bucharest, and in 2016 in Cluj, Brasov and Timisoara.
"Let`s Do It, Romania!" Is an environmental NGO and since 2010 has involved more than 1,400,000 volunteers in national clean-up actions and over 50,000 pupils and parents in ecological education projects.
