On 17 October, the Governments of Romania and the United Arab Emirates adopted the "Joint Statement on Establishing a Strategic Economic Partnership between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates". The document was signed on the occasion of the official visit of Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă to the United Arab Emirates. PM Viorica Dăncilă said that she presented the large-scale projects for the development of Romania and companies in the Emirates are interested in the public-private partnership in the logistics and transport sectors. Representatives of an Emirate business group consider the opportunity to invest over $ 100 million in logistics and commercial parks in Romania. "They are also interested in building the Bucharest port on the Danube-Bucharest channel and will come next week for the first talks," added Dăncilă.
According to a government statement, the document highlights the important regional role of the United Arab Emirates, along with Romania's membership of the European Union, which offers important opportunities for cooperation, by developing joint initiatives for both parties.
It also mentions the objectives of bilateral cooperation in the priority sectors for Romania, namely: trade, investment, industry, agriculture, financial and banking, energy, transport and transport infrastructure, IT and blockchain technology, as well as education, culture, innovation, tourism, youth and sport.
The Declaration highlights the important role of the Romanian and Emirate communities in the UAE and Romania for the economic, social and cultural development of the two states.
The Declaration stresses the need to adopt an Action Plan in the near future, documenting the concrete steps that the two governments will undertake to implement the Strategic Economic Partnership.
The dynamization of the economic and trade dimension of the bilateral relations with the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council is an important specific objective of the Government of Romania, included in the Governance Program 2017-2020, the Bucharest Executive also said.
