The Romanian Ministry of Economy announced on Wednesday that Romaero S.A. and Sikorsky, part of the Lockheed Martin group, have signed an industrial partnership agreement. The agreement provides for the creation of a regional center for the equipment and maintenance of the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hakw multi-mission helicopter. .
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Romanian Ministry of Economy in the presence of Economy Minister Danuţ Andruşca, the President of the Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies Dorel Căprar and representatives of the United States Embassy in Bucharest.
"The industrial partnership between Romaero and Sikorsky (part of the Lockheed Martin group) focuses on activities that will ensure the long-term participation of several companies in Romania's national defense industry in assembling, equipping, customizing and maintaining the multi- mission Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hakw. The Bucharest Center will be the only one authorized by the Lockheed Martin Group to equip and maintain the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk multi-mission helicopter in Central Europe, "the release said.
The Minister of Economy considers that this agreement is a confirmation of the potential of the Romanian industry.
The Vice President Sikorsky, Eric Schreiber, believes that Romania could thus obtain the necessary coverage of its strategic position.
"Our ability to provide the most capable ASW and anti-submarine helicopter (ASW) will offer Romania at the most competitive price the necessary coverage of its strategic position on the Black Sea," he said Eric Schreiber.
Romeero's General Director, Remus Vulpescu, believes that the state-owned company will take all necessary steps to ensure the success of this project with coverage from Turkey to Poland.
"Our 100 years of experience in civil and military aeronautics, qualified human resources, educational infrastructure and production capabilities available in both Bucharest and our country partners make Romania attractive to the world's major military equipment manufacturers, as Lockheed Martin Corporation. At a sectoral level, a high degree of cohesion of the defense industry and a positive approach from the political environment can bring significant opportunities for economic and technological development to Romania, especially in the context of increasing our country's engagement in strategic partnerships with NATO. " said Vulpescu.
Lockheed Martin is considered to be a key partner for Europe and NATO in the field of defense, being an important supplier in the last decades of equipment that has entered the Romanian army, such as F-16s, C-130s, the Black Chopper helicopter Hawk, aerial surveillance, artillery and anti-missile defense systems, including Aegis Ashore.
