Bucharest Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a very important day in Turkey yesterday, a day full of events and opening new roads in bilateral cooperation. The head of the Government in Bucharest is accompanied by a dozen ministers, including the Army and the Finance. A clear signal that the two countries insist on the defense, security and economic components of cooperation between the two countries.
Romania is interested in Turkey being a major pillar in the Black Sea region, in the context of Russia's growing aggressive situation in the area. At the same time, Romania needs Turkish investments in sectors where Turkey is competitive, such as energy and infrastructure.
In turn, Turkey is very interested that Romania will remain a strategic partner in the European policy area and the concerns of the Government of Ankara. President Erdogan noted with great pleasure that the PM of Romania visited Ankara before taking over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, starting January 1, 2019. Turkey hopes that the six-month presidency of Romania to the EU will set a new stage for the development of the the relations between Ankara and Brussels and, in particular, the thawing the chapters on Turkey's accession to the EU.
The exceptional character of the Romanian PM's visit to Ankara was demonstrated by the fact that President Erdogan had no less than four meetings and talks with Mrs. Viorica Dancila. Moreover, the President Erdogan also offered an official dinner in honor of the the Romanian guest.
The President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that the two countries' economic co-operation target is to reach a level of trade of $ 10 billion.
"We started with a bilateral meeting where we discussed what we could do to further develop our cooperation in the near future (...) Economic and trade relations are the most important level of our relations. a turnover of about $ 6 billion, and we want this figure to grow even more this year. Our goal is to reach $ 10 billion in trade. we will do it in common, we will reach this goal, "President Erdogan said in joint statements with the Romanian Prime Minister.
He added that in the first eight months of 2018, figures grew by 23% over the same period last year.
"Therefore, we will continue to work very hard to reach our goal of 10 billion dollars. Together with the third countries participating in Romania, we have investments of 7 billion dollars, investments made by Turkish companies. there are more than 15,000 Turkish companies operating from the banking sector to the media, from construction to the production of various products. Of course we will continue to support our investors from now on to make investments in Romania and We at the same time invite our Romanian friends to come and make investments in Turkey, "added Erdogan.
The Turkish President also underlined the importance of cooperation with Romania in the field of security.
He expressed his appreciation to the Romanian side on the subject of the Turkish community in Romania, but also on intercultural exchanges.
At the same time, the Turkish president reminded that 2018 represents a moment of celebration for the two states, given the 140 years of bilateral diplomatic relations, and pointed out that since 2011 the bilateral relations are based on a Strategic Partnership.
"The friendship between our countries is the result of the cultural exchange and the relations between our peoples," concluded Erdogan.
