Labor shortages: 7,000 foreign workers will be admitted to the labor market in 2018

By Jerom Bolt
On Thursday, the Government decided on 7,000 foreign workers to be admitted to the Romanian labor market in 2018 on the basis of the direct hirings or the posting vacancies.
The document approved by the Executive provides for the supplementation of 1,500 places for the quota per type of newly admitted workers compared to the one set for 2017. Thus, the number of permanent workers will increase from 3,000 to 4,000 and the number of posted workers from 700 to 1200.
The normative act also provides for other types of employment or posting, namely: intra-corporate transferees - 700, highly qualified workers - 500, seasonal workers - 400, trainees - 100 and cross-border workers - 100.
"The decision to supplement the contingent of newly admitted workers was taken to prevent situations where aliens work in Romania without legal forms but also following the request made by the General Inspectorate for Immigration," the press release said.
At the same time, it is stated that the measure adopted by the Government took into account the data provided by the National Agency for Employment, according to which, during January-August this year, 58,848 jobs were declared by the employers, repeatedly as vacant, and in the first eight months, the average number of vacancies declared by employers was repeatedly 7,306.
