In Romania, unlike the countries of the West, there is no case of great corruption

By Emea Riga
The President of the Senate in Bucharest (Superior Chamber of Parliament), Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, says that "in Romania, unlike the countries of the West, there is no case of high corruption" and only 4 cases out of the 4,000 dignitaries who were convicted for taking or bribery.
"In the discussion with the ALDE group in the European Parliament there was a question about corruption. One of the Europarlarians said the phenomenon of corruption is deeply rooted in Romania. I replied that it is a phenomenon that concerns us and which we are fighting, but it is a phenomenon as preoccupying and as deeply rooted as it is in other countries, "Tariceanu said. He said European statistics on corruption ranked Romania in the middle of the ranking of European countries.
Tariceanu added that there are many countries he does not want to nominate "from politeness, deference to the citizens of these countries", which are far ahead of us, countries with older, more consolidated democracies. "Romania has made progress lately and I think it will make further progress and I want two remarks to do. The first, which I have done there, in Romania, unlike the countries of the West, there is no case of great corruption. Recently, in the Netherlands, which gives us advice on combating corruption, one of the largest banks, ING, was fined 900 million euros for money laundering. In Denmark, a bank was fined one billion euros for money laundering. In Germany, the Volkswagen Group beat all the records, tens of billions of euros paid for corruption in the automobile group's scandal, "the ALDE leader said.
The President of the Senate said that there are no such situations in Romania. "There are, of course, four cases of senior dignitaries who have been convicted of taking or bribery. Four of four thousand files. The rest are folders made on subjects loved by National Anti-Corruption Direction : abuse of service, complicity in abuse of service, improper participation in abuse of service and all the forms they have invented so as to make this impressive score, which is passed as a crime assimilated to corruption, "Tariceanu continued.
