Despite the changing weather phenomena, wheat production in the summer of 2018 was 10.2 million tons, about 200,000 tons more than in 2017, reaching a new production peak, the Agriculture Minister Petre Daea said.
"I can tell you that wheat we harvested more than last year, although we had a difficult year, with high temperatures, but by the farmers' endowment, by following the vegetation phases, through the work program, the farmers managed to gather the wheat. Production is about 200,000 tons more than last year. It is a production that farmers deserve and which country they have to use, and we all have it as such. It is the first time Romania exceeds 10 million tons of wheat, "said Petre Daea.
Also, according to the balance sheet presented by the Minister of Agriculture, the agricultural year 2018 was a year with good production and barley, higher than last year.
"We also have good production in barley and autumn barley. In 2018, 1.3 million tonnes were harvested. The largest wheat and barley productions in the counties were Satu Mare, Bihor, Arad, Timis, Mehedinti, Dolj, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Calarasi, Ialomita, Brăila and Constanţa ", added the official.
"Romania has been fortified from the agricultural point of view, because the farmers have technologically endowed. Our country will no longer leave this pedestal on which it has climbed because it has managed to fortify itself, "added the minister.
The data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture shows that in 1990 there were 7.2 million tons of wheat, in 2016 the production amounted to 8.4 million tons and in 2017 there were 10.03 million tons of wheat.
