The industrial output rose 3.8% in the euro area and 3.9% in the EU (EU 28) in August 2017 as compared to August 2016, according to a Eurostat report today. Romania has a growth rate of industrial production of 10.3%, the largest in the EU, excluding Lithuania and Latvia, without any industrial structure in Europe.
The manufacturing and extraction industries, and the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning contributed to the 8.2% increase in industrial production, in unadjusted terms, in the first eight months of 2017, compared to the same period of last year, show the data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the statistics, from January 1 to August 31, 2017, compared to the first eight months of 2016, industrial production, adjusted to the number of working days and seasonality, increased by 8.9% due to the activities carried out in the processing industry (+ 9.1%), mining industry (+ 4.3%) and in the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+ 2.2%).
In unadjusted terms, the increase in industrial production was 8.2% in the analyzed period, as a result of the increases in three industrial sectors: processing industry (+ 8.9%), mining industry (+ 5.2%) and production and supply of electricity, heating, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+ 1.8%).
In August this year, compared to the previous month, industrial production (unadjusted terms) decreased by 8.9%, due to the results in processing industry (-10.1%). On the other hand, the mining industry and the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 8.3% and 0.6%, respectively.
The INS data reveal that, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, in August 2017 industrial production - in unadjusted terms - increased by 10.3%, supported by the mining industry (+ 18.7%) and the processing industry (+ 11.2%).
