Lord Mayor of London in Romania Thursday and Friday, talks with authorities about infrastructure development

Lord Mayor of the City of London Andrew Parmley, ambassador of the British financial services, is visiting Romania on Thursday and Friday, in order to strengthen the trade ties between the City of London, the world's leading financial centre and Bucharest, 'a blossoming space of banking, legal, Fintech and financial services' industries,' informs a press release of the UK Embassy.

Andrew Parmley will meet government and business leaders, as well as policymakers and trade authorities to discuss closer cooperation between the City of London and Romania. The visit is taking place as the City of London aims to extend its international presence in the financial and consultancy services' sector. The talks will also tackle ways in which London can uphold Romania's major infrastructure and energy projects. 'Lord Mayor has scheduled meetings with the Romanian Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the Governor of the National Bank of Romania.

He will also talk to local financial sector and the Bucharest Stock Exchange representatives about the strengthening of the financial ties between the UK and Romania. Lord Mayor will also take part in several events with business leaders to discuss The City's offer in innovation, financial technology, cyber security, international standards compliance,' reads the press release. According to it, the talks with the Romanian authorities will address the infrastructure, energy and technology domains. 'I am very pleased to go to Bucharest. I know that my visit will include a busy schedule of productive meetings with government and industrial leaders. There are many opportunities for UK companies in Romania - including in sectors such as energy, infrastructure or financial technology,' stated Andrew Parmley, quoted in the British Embassy release.

The Lord Mayor spoke about Britain's economic relations within the international market in the Brexit context. 'Following the British decision to leave the European Union, it is more important than ever to strengthen our relationship with vibrant markets in the world, but it also remains essential to maintain close ties with our European partners. As the world's leading financial centre, London provides an unique competitive bid for Romanian companies wishing to expand in or out of the country, which I hope will happen for the benefit of communities across Europe,' he said.

Referring to the Lord Mayor's upcoming visit, British Ambassador to Romania Paul Brummell said: 'I am delighted that Lord Mayor and his team will visit Romania, one of the fastest growing economies in the European Union.' The diplomat spoke, in the context, about the development of the financial sector in Romania. 'The City of London provides important opportunities for companies in Romania aiming to expand, as demonstrated by the enthusiasm of Romanian companies to participate in the ELITE programme of the London Stock Exchange. Ties in areas such as financial services, education, competencies' development, trade and investment are extremely important components of the close and special partnership between the UK and Romania,' Paul Brummell pointed out.

Dr. Andrew Parmley is the 689th Lord Mayor of City of London, the financial centre of the United Kingdom. He has been a teacher for over 30 years, a period during which he has built an unparalleled understanding of how education can promote social mobility, encourage economic development and generate prosperity. The function of Lord Mayor is unpaid, non-party political and has a one-year term. Lord Mayor Parmley graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in Manchester, London Universities and Jesus College, Cambridge. His career includes management experience as a music director for various institutions such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Forest School, South Hampstead High School, Gray Coat Hospital Westminster, and Harrodian Senior School, co-founder of the Transcontinental School Innovation Alliance and Board Member in Prime Minister's Apprenticeship Delivery Board. He is an international ambassador of the London Symphony Orchestra.
