Romania and the Republic of Korea will continue the upward trajectory of their bilateral relations, established on the set of shared values such as democracy, free economy, human rights, the rule of law, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) affirms in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Saturday, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary since the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of the Bilateral Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea.
'At this anniversary moment but also stocktaking point, the Foreign Affairs Ministry voices its satisfaction with the stage of the Romanian-Korean bilateral relations, in terms of political, sectoral cooperation, including within various multilateral organisations of universal vocation, such as the UN, UNESCO, or in terms of economic and development cooperation - OECD. Romania and the Republic of Korea will pursue the upward trajectory of their bilateral relations, established on the set of shared values such as democracy, free economy, human rights, the rule of law,' the release informs.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in the context of a complex situation in the Korean Peninsula, the promotion of peace, stability and security in the spirit of recognized principles of the international law and norms will continue to be a 'prime objective' of international cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Korea.
'Equally, the existing Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Korea and the European Union, as well as the cooperation of the Republic of Korea with NATO as a privileged partner, add a new dimension meant to underline that the Strategic Partnership concluded on 8 September 2008 only represents the natural and normal evolution of the affinity between the Romanian and Korean peoples, as well as a communion of historical destiny between the two states,' the cited source maintains.
The partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea is officially based on two documents: the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea (2008) and the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea (2010).
The Joint Statement was signed by the two countries' presidents, in Seoul, on September 8, 2008, on the occasion of Romania's President's official visit. The Foreign Ministers of the two countries signed the Joint Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea (July 6, 2010).
The Republic of Korea was the first Asian country with which Romania has established partnership relations and remains the only strategic partner in Asia to date. At the same time, Romania is the first country in the EU to establish relations at this level with the Republic of Korea.
